Hi there, I’m Candice.
After a challenging journey that began in my teens, I found myself battling intense pain and seeking answers from the medical field. I had trained hard as an athlete in dance and was very active as a youth. However, I encountered frustration while searching for answers, and that’s when I turned to holistic methods. With the support of natural doctors, I began to heal. I truly believe that had I discovered the NeuroHorizons® Experiential Movement® Learning method sooner, I wouldn't have experienced so much pain growing up, and my body has truly transformed. I spent countless hours researching and seeking help, yet I never found this method mentioned once during that time—I discovered it by "accident."
What really ignited my passion for this approach was the incredible story of my daughter’s best friend, who has cerebral palsy. Witnessing the miracles in his life inspired me to fully embrace this method. This child should not be able to do half of the things he can do. Watching him learn to swim, among other achievements, has been an incredible testament to this work.
The changes I experienced in my own life, along with the positive impact on my family and friends, have filled me with gratitude.
Witnessing firsthand the profound impact of this experiential movement has been incredible. It’s truly remarkable to see the real miracles that result from this work!
Now, I’m dedicated to sharing the profound benefits of this approach with others. I believe it has the power to change lives in remarkable ways, just as it changed mine and those around me. I’m absolutely thrilled because every time I learn something new through this work and witness its transformative power in my life, I see the ripple effect it creates for others. This fills me with genuine joy! This is how NeuroJoy in Movement came to life! So, if you’re ready to discover how movement can unlock your potential and transform your life, let’s dive in together.
I love kids and have always gotten along well with them. My playful fun spirit helps this work be well recieved by children. I fully believe miracles are possible and that skills can help
"Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars" (Preacher Norman Vincent Peale), meaning that even if you don't achieve your most ambitious goal, you will still reach a high level of success by aiming for the highest possible standard. So, embrace the unexpected, as it could mark the beginning of substantial transformation in your childs life.
Ready to Transform Your Child’s Journey?
Say goodbye to frustration and hello to a new path forward with Experiential Movement®. Discover how this transformative approach can help your child thrive—let’s embark on this journey together!
Designed especially for Children With Special Needs (but empowering for everyone), NeuroHorizons® Experiential Movement® is a focused interpretation and synthesis of the original teachings of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais. Our method is often transformative for kids with developmental challenges.
As a NeuroHorizons® Experiential Movement® Mentor, I offer Experiential Movement Lessons for children facing a wide range of congenital conditions, birth traumas, injuries, and genetic challenges.
These are gentle and spacious yet directed movement sequences. They help the child’s nervous system become more aware of the whole self, including the many inter-relationships among body parts and functions.
This attention activates the child’s native capacity for neural plasticity, and results in new skills, options, and ease with the tasks of daily living.
No matter the developmental challenge, a child is almost always receptive and adaptive when it comes to creating new “neural networks” and “maps”. These can eventually displace some older patterns and habits that no longer serve.
Through Experiential Movement Lessons I enter a conversation with your child’s nervous system via sensory and kinesthetic experiences. I invite the child to explore this new information and stimuli, in such a way that their brain can receive and assemble what is necessary to fill developmental gaps and evolve new skills.
“We start our work with each child based on her existing ‘neural map’ and developmental impasse. These comprise where the child is now, not where practitioner or parent thinks she ‘should’ be. Yet, that habituated map is not the territory: It is our starting point, but never the ending point.
Our distinction is that we are in effect inviting each child to gently and unhurriedly ‘dance’ with us in a joint adventure of discovery beyond the current map ― and in fact to grow and expand the child’s neural territory ― through intentional movement Lessons that elicit the child’s native learning process.” (Sylvia Leiner Shordike, The NeuroHorizons Primer: Empower Yourself to Empower the Child With Special Needs (2020) pp. 2, 21)
What makes our approach different than some others is our acknowledgement that, as compassionate caregivers, we “often feel the urge, but can never successfully ‘do it to’ or ‘do it for’ the child.” So, rather than strive to “fix” or “manage” a child’s developmental challenge or disability, we instead
“invite the child’s brain and nervous system to discover and embrace new, empowering, and enduring ways to meet the world. With this gentle approach, children create for themselves something that wasn’t there before, on their own terms and timetable. This is an organic, unforced process arising from within the child. We help elicit and frame this native exercise of neural plasticity, but we cannot impose or control it.” (The NeuroHorizons Primer, pp. 2, 21)

Think Transformation Is Out Of Reach For Your Child?
Ever find yourself thinking things like…
You’re not alone!
Many parents feel overwhelmed by the options and uncertainty when it comes to supporting their children’s growth.
Here’s the Good News:
Transformative movement doesn’t have to be complicated! with NeuroJoy®, you can discover a path that truly works for you and your child. Sounds great, doesn’t it?
Here is what Liz said about this work....
(a note from Candice) I can not take any credit for his incredible changes as I only worked on him a little during my training and a
few other practicioners really have helped to transform his life but I wanted to share his amazing story.
"I cannot say enough great things about this movement work. It has been life changing for my son who is diagnosed with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy. We have traveled all over the world doing various intensive work and other interventions throughout his life, but this has been one of the best things we have ever done and it has drastically changed his trajectory in all areas of his life. My son is ten and one of his eyes was diagnosed with a slight rotation. After one year of doing movement lessons standalone without any other therapy, we went to his developmental eye doctor for his routine visit. The doctor was shocked that his eye rotation had suddenly disappeared. He said that he never would have expected that for my son with his condition and that it meant that neural networks were being built on both sides of the brain showing cognitive and motor planning growth. It is miraculous! I now look forward with so much hope and excitement as he continues to grow cognitively, emotionally, physically and in communication with each intensive he completes! My only regret is that we didn’t know about this work earlier.
Candice is one of the movement lesson teachers my son has worked with. She is so kind and genuine and is so sweet with my son. We are so fortunate to have met her in this life changing work!"

Change Is Possible!
This is the inspiring story of Luke Hogan Laurenson, a remarkable young man whose journey has been profoundly impacted by this work. Luke’s story highlights the transformative potential of this approach, and while each child's outcome is unique, knowing what is possible can be incredibly empowering.
Luke underwent Selective Percutaneous Myofascial Lengthening (SPML) surgery with Dr. Yngve in Texas. Not long after, he began working again with my teacher, Sylvia. Just six months later, at age 12, Luke took his first independent steps. The combination of focused movement education and the SPML surgery worked in harmony to make this incredible milestone possible.
I cannot emphasize enough how crucial this dual approach was to Luke's success. With the dedication of Luke, his mother, and the guidance of Sylvia, walking became a reality. As Sylvia often says, "I have seen this successful combination over and over." Luke's story is just one powerful example of how this work can lead to truly life-changing outcomes.
